Five days later, Fosca is in her drawing room doing needlepoint. She is sicker than usual. Giorgio, having returned from his time with Clara, visits Fosca. She asks about his love for Clara. He tells her that Clara is a married woman whom he adores. Learning all the details of the relationship, Fosca asks that Giorgio never come to visit her again
